The coil is the small heating element inside your device that turns e-liquid into vapour. It is also the part that wears out. Get the right one and your setup just works. Get the wrong one, or run an old one too long, and everything tastes off. This is a quick, plain guide to both.
Matching a coil to your device
The single most important rule: a coil has to match your specific device. Tanks and pods are built for particular coil families, and a coil from the wrong system simply will not fit or seal. When in doubt, bring your device or pod into the store and we will match it on the spot. That beats ordering the wrong thing online twice.
Beyond fit, you will see a resistance number printed on the coil, measured in ohms.
- Higher resistance (roughly 1.0 ohm and up) leans toward a tighter, mouth-to-lung draw and pairs well with higher-nicotine e-liquids. It is the cigarette-like pull most starter setups use.
- Lower resistance (below 1.0 ohm) leans toward a warmer, airier direct-lung draw and bigger vapour, usually paired with lower-nicotine liquid.

Priming a new coil
Before you vape a fresh coil, prime it. Put a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton, reassemble, fill the tank or pod, and let it sit for several minutes. This soaks the wick so the first puffs do not scorch it. Skipping this step is the number one reason a new coil tastes burnt right away.
Signs it is time for a new coil
Coils do not last forever. Swap yours when you notice any of these:
- A burnt or harsh taste that sticks around even with the tank full.
- Weaker flavour or noticeably less vapour than when it was new.
- Gurgling or leaking that cleaning does not fix.
- A darkened, gunked-up look on the coil itself.
For a regular vaper, a coil often lasts somewhere between one and two weeks, but your e-liquid, how much you vape, and your device all move that. Sweeter, darker liquids tend to gunk coils faster. Treat the taste as your real signal rather than the calendar.
A few habits that stretch coil life
- Keep the tank or pod topped up so the wick never runs dry.
- Let a fresh coil sit a few minutes after priming.
- Do not chain-vape a coil until it is hot and dry.
